You should be running GE Proton (or one based on it) instead of the official one from Valve.
Valve doesn’t have the license for every video codec and therefore the official Proton versions are missing some codecs. Because of this, some pre-rendered cinematics and other in-game videos won’t be displayed properly.
In some cases you’ll see a screen like the one above, other times you’ll get a black screen, and in the worst cases, the scene might just get skipped entirely. So you might not even realize you miss something!
I’d recommend installing ProtonUp-Qt either via your distro’s package manager or via flatpak / your distro’s software center.
Once installed run the program, select the latest GE Proton version (or whichever you prefer), install it and restart steam.
After you run steam again just go to Steam -> Settings -> Compatibility and select the version you downloaded from the “Default compatibility tool” drop down menu.
CachyOS users should just use the Proton-CachyOS version which comes already installed with the gaming packages and is based on GE Proton as well.
